The ‘De Ruiter Seeds' company was founded in the Dutch village of Bleiswijk on 1 July 1945. Wouter de Ruiter set up a small company that produced seed potatoes and agricultural and horticultural seeds. He quickly expanded his activities by selecting, breeding and producing seeds himself. He achieved success. At the beginning of the seventies the company introduced her 1st innovation; The ‘Sporu', a variety cucumber which is immune to the dreaded Spot virus. Soon after it develops the ‘Sonato' tomato variety which was resistant to the Tobacco Mosaic Virus. This proved a major breakthrough in international horticulture.
The product range is expanded with peppers and aubergine in the eighties, and in the nineties the company made a great achievement with the further development of rootstocks. The company has grown into a flourishing international organisation.
