Festive opening of the De Ruiter Experience Centre 22 maart 2018

Yesterday was a great day for De Ruiter. The seed company finally opened the doors of the brand new, state-of-the-art demo greenhouse: the De Ruiter Experience Center. This glasshouse hosts more than 300 varieties under lit and normal conditions and is the place where De Ruiter will continue to surprise customers and help grow their businesses. The opening was a festive event, where De Ruiter’s team looked forward to for quite a while.

Originally, the opening was planned earlier in the year, but a whirlwind storm brutally ended those plans. The heavy winter storm on 3 January damaged the glasshouse and after careful consideration of the damage, it was decided to postpone the opening until 22 March. But the waiting has now been rewarded with a festive and well-attended opening.

VIP program in the morning

De Ruiter received many leaders from the Netherlands and abroad in the morning. The mayor of Lansingerland, Pieter van der Stadt, and alderman Albert Abee made an appearance. Of course there were also several top managers from Monsanto, such as Juan Ferreira (Global Crop Protection & Seed Application Solution Lead), Sebastian Langbehn (Global Vegetable Business Lead) and Ibrahim El Menschawi (Monsanto EMEA Vegetable Business Lead).

After several speeches and a panel discussion, 100 guests witnessed the official opening: the viewing of a film with the history of De Ruiter in a nutshell, concluded with a ‘big bang’. The rest of the morning the VIPs enjoyed a tour of the glasshouses and visited the attractive De Ruiter Market, where samples of tomato, pepper and cucumber are on display. They also discovered the process from breeding to launching successful varieties in the Experience corner, after which they left for a lunch and an informative afternoon program at the Monsanto office.

Afternoon program for growers

In the afternoon, the growers got acquainted with the De Ruiter Experience Center. While enjoying a bite - from chef Guus Vredenburg - and a drink, they visited the De Ruiter Market, enjoyed the real ‘Experience’ and visited the illuminated and unexposed glasshouses with more than 300 different tomato varieties.

Growers were certainly impressed, according to all the reactions. In the De Ruiter Experience Center the technical progress of cultivation systems is put into practice.
